Susan DeVilder This kind of magazine is inflammatory in order to suck readers in. It's what they do. Think National Enquirer and Globe headlines. That's the equivalency

Daxton's Friends for Canine Education & Awareness made the headlines in a major women's magazine in the UK today.

  • Carol Miller Jeff, did you know this was in the works?
  • Jeff Borchardt Yes. This was the first interview that Kim has done since the accident.
  • Liza Mae This is big!!! I've noticed the journalists in UK pull no punches when reporting on maulings and DBRFs. They are not concerned with being PC to appease the "danger dog" lovers and call them devil dogs, beasts, vicious, etc. I have yet to read an article where they made excuses for the dogs.
  • Jean Olszewski OMG , Jeff, cried, sharing, love you guys.
  • Liza Mae They also do not call maulings "bites." They use much more descriptive terms like savaged, horribly mauled, viciously attacked, etc.
  • Krista Lee Where can I read this article
  • Liza Mae Never in Her wildest dreams could Suzie have imagined that dogs could be so intent on their prey that they would do something like this - the maxim "never leave a child unattended" does not address the numerous children attacked with adults right there, and the adults were helpless against the red-zoned pits. Then they downplay the horrific damage by saying, "well of course, they are strong and strong-willed, so naturally they cause more damage. That's the only difference between them and other dogs." Madness.
  • Susan DeVilder This kind of magazine is inflammatory in order to suck readers in. It's what they do. Think National Enquirer and Globe headlines. That's the equivalency. It's not right, but it's how they do it.
  • Maggie Bain Hightower So awesome!!!!!!!!!!
  • Wayne Webb Wow! Susan Susan DeVilder This man lost his little boy. The innocent , sweet little guy was torn to shreds; can you imagine something like that happening to you? And all you care about is the filthy, puke licking dogs. If I had a magazine, TV station, I would publish his tragic story for FREE.
  • Jeff Borchardt This magazine is the equivalent to the US version "Women's Day"... The article targets the audience we are trying to reach. It will be read by A LOT of mothers. It drives home the message very effectively. AND it mentions Daxtonsfriends.com which helps the UK with the problem they are having with this pit bull name change game.
Welcome to the Daxton’s Friends website! Our goal is to serve as a resource for healthy canine pet ownership,...

  • Lisa Gaffney My interpretation of Susan's comment was that she was referring to the way they seem to be playing up Susie's role as purposely defiant. Of course, she never in a million years thought this would happen. She was victimized too by the propaganda, lulled into a false sense of safety.
  • Lisa Gaffney This is great, Jeff...... glad to see this published. This will certainly help to raise awareness.
  • John Tawaroa You should be able to buy in online or order it at a magazine shop.
  • John Wright That's Life is the name of the magazine?
  • Susan DeVilder Thank you Lisa Gaffney. That's exactly what I meant. Did anyone notice Susie's comment? It must be very painful for her to see something like that splashed across a magazine! She did nothing wrong. This has to be horrible for her to go through.
  • Susan DeVilder Let me add, I am glad the story is getting out there and getting the attention it deserves, but I noticed Susie's comment and it made feel badly for her.
  • Susan DeVilder And Wayne Webb, totally out of line!
  • Wayne Webb Telling the truth is always "out of line" to those who refuse to admit it.
  • Susan DeVilder WTF are you talking about?
  • Susan DeVilder Just what do I refuse to admit???
  • Lisa Gaffney Wayne, Susan is a victims advocate, I think you are jumping to conclusions.
  • Liza Mae Just a misunderstanding, Wayne and Susan. I thought Lisa's comment above cleared it up?
  • Liza Mae everyone prepare to be smeared with peanut nutter and antifreeze!
  • Liza Mae LOL at my Freudian slip of a typo! I'm not fixing it
  • Liza Mae Susan DeVilder what comment by Susie? In the article or elsewhere?
  • Liza Mae Susie was lulled by the propaganda. Many pit owners are. I pit myself in danger thinking maybe pits did just get a bad rap, and I quickly found out otherwise!!!!
  • Liza Mae *put --another Freudian typo!
  • Susan DeVilder She must have deleted it. And if she deleted it, there must have been a reason. So I won't repeat what she wrote, but when I saw it, I felt badly for her and I wanted her to know that they use incideniary titles to get people to read these articles. It's just how they work.
  • Lisa Gaffney I agree, my first thought was how horrible she would feel if she saw it. I didn't even realize she had already. She must have come and gone before I came to the thread. I'm happy the story is bring told - just wish it wasn't sensationalizing Susie's role. This has been a horrific tragedy she's had to live with everyday as well.
  • Susan DeVilder I agree. So much pain on all sides. I can't even imagine.
  • Liza Mae Go to any article about pits, attacking or otherwise, or a Pro pit site or fb page and you will find that 99% of the pit owners stating that their pits are harmless. Because they are, until they aren't one day, the day their "working dog" nature rises its ugly head.
  • Jaime Brunkan Watch that FB page of the magazine, tagged above. There are some pro-pit trying to attack Jeff and his story! Scroll down to where they show the cover of the magazine, back towards end of Dec.
  • Liza Mae Ignore their cruel taunts and gossip. Post facts. Post personal experiences.
  • Liza Mae That is how they operate. In their minds, it is NEVER because pit bulls were bred (not bread) to willingly go into battle without provocation and to fight to the death, their opponents or their own. The dogmen of Staffordshire knew exactly what they had when they created the pit bull.
  • Tony Solesky Jeff Borchardt, It keeps growing and growing and you are a force to be reckoned with. Is this good news- Yes, does it surprise me - Nope, I have always known this group is doing a mission of life's work. And it is going to get better. It won't matter the law, because we are going to make these dogs go the way of the typewriter. .

  • John Tawaroa Them saying the police report said the dogs were mistreated and under fed is a lie, call them out.
