Pit Bulls - Caution Be Careful What You Say, "accidental advocates".....

It absolutely bunches the undies of your typical pit bull hater to hear someone referring to pit bulls as "Nanny dogs" and in that regard Jeff Borchardt is no different to the rest.

The thing is this poor woman may not even realize that Jeff has unbeknownst to her labeled her as a member of the infamous but mythical "Pit Bull Lobby".

Obviously oblivious to the tactics and techniques of the Dj and his war against Pit Bulls there's a fair bet he's stalked her Facebook account and downloaded any of her public pictures available all the time she's not even aware she's been inducted into the pit bull wars.

If you know Anna please make her aware she's under attack let her know she's an "accidental advocate".

All it takes is one seemingly innocent comment.....

Source..... The Pit Bull Propaganda Machine Revealed

Here's a sampling of the results of a quick google search using the parameters "nanny dogs" the fact is Pit Bulls were used extensively to settle the wild west in the early days and most families had all round family pets that did everything from, work cattle, kill snakes. chase off bears, mountain lions and other such predators from both the livestock and the children when they accompanied them.

Hence the Nanny dog was born but they definitely weren't uniquely pit bulls many breeds took on the mantra quite proudly with mixed breed mutts often often becoming leaders in this area.

The Pit Bull Dog - Once Known as the Nanny Dog - What Happened?

In the early part of the 1900’s, the Pit Bull Dog was known as the “Nanny Dog”. Why, you ask? If you wanted to keep your children safe, the pit bull was the most faithful and loving dog of any dog breed, especially with children. They were strong and loyal and loved children. If your child had a pit bull dog as a pet, you felt that they were safe. So what happened?
Ironically enough it is the wonderful qualities of the pit bull that have attracted it to the “criminal element”, which have victimized this wonderful breed of dog. The Pit Bullbreed is strong, and very intelligent. They are loyal and courageous. Their main goal is to please their owner. Yes, they look tough, but they have not been referred to as the “Nanny Dog” for almost 100 years for nothing! At one time the pit bull dogs were the most beloved dogs in England and the United States.

Pit bulls Used to Be Considered the Perfect "Nanny Dogs" for Children -- Until the Media Turned Them Into Monsters

For most of the 114 years since the American pitbull terrier was first recognized by the United Kennel Club, the breed was rightly seen as the perfect “nanny dog” for children because of its friendly nature, loyalty and stability. As the ASPCA notes, the pit bulls were “once considered especially non-aggressive to people.”
Today, as any owner of a “pitbull-type” dog* can attest, parents often recoil in horror when they spot one of these animals, pulling their children close as if to protect them from a marauding werewolf. Fanciful myths about the breed abound, and some public officials have compared their bites to those of sharks and tigers.
Since the 1980s, the media have falsely portrayed the pitbull as a bloodthirsty monster, inherently more dangerous than other strong breeds of dog. There is absolutely no factual basis for that narrative,

A Brief History of Dog Prejudice, by Keith L. Kendrick

In the early 1900's an interesting development occurred: One of the most popular dogs in America gained a reputation in the press as an all-purpose family dog because of it’s reputation for protecting its family’s children. These dogs were even a main character in the famous short films and TV serial "Our Gang" (or "The Little Rascals"), and as well as the mascot for Buster Brown shoes and the dog featured next to an early phonograph in ads by RCA. But these dogs, with the unfortunate name of Pit Bull, were not ready for prime-time demonization.

What is a nanny dog, and why does it have this name?

QUICK ANSWER

Nanny dog was a nickname for pit bulls, because they were considered the perfect dog for children. Because of the breed's friendly, non-aggressive and loyal nature, pit bulls were thought to be a good breed to suit rambunctious children.

Pit bulls are often portrayed negatively in the media because some owners train them to be aggressive, either for home defense or for violent acts such as dog fighting. Because of this reputation, pit bulls have been one of the most abused and misunderstood breeds in the United States. Although the breed is friendly and loyal when treated properly, many people now think of the breed as naturally aggressive rather than as a nanny dog.

The Real History of Pit Bulls Might Surprise You

Pit bulls have a reputation as brutal fighting dogs that attack without warning, and it is completely unfair. Learn how pit bulls went from being the family dog to being feared.
Every time I read a story about dog fighting it breaks my heart a little bit. I hate any animal cruelty, but dog fighting hits close to home for me. My sweet girl, Jenna, is a lab-pit bull mix, and one of my nightmares is that someone would steal her to use as a fighter or bait dog. The infographic below is so great, because it takes a fact-based look at pit bulls and debunks some common myths about them.
Just like any other dogs, pit bulls can be aggressive or they can be friendly. It’s all about training and breeding. Unfortunately, pits have a bad reputation, and a lot of it is based on myths. These myths about pit bulls and other so-called “bully breeds” are dangerous in two ways:

For Over 100 Years, Pitbulls Were Our Babysitters

Posted by Jennifer

ywgrossman.com. Astoundingly, for most of our history America’s nickname for Pit Bulls was “The Nanny Dog”. For generations if you had children and wanted to keep them safe you wanted a pit bull, the dog that was the most reliable of any breed with children or adults. The Nanny Dog is now vilified by a media that always wants a demon dog breed to frighten people and LHASA-APSO BITES MAN just doesn’t sell papers. Before pit bulls it was Rottweilers, before Rottweilers it was Dobermans, and before them German Shepherds. Each breed in it’s order were deemed too vicious and unpredictable to be around people. Each time people wanted laws to ban them. It is breathtakingly ironic that the spotlight has turned on the breed once the symbol of our country and our national babysitter

Pit Bulls often get a bad reputation for being inherently vicious animals, primarily for their association with illegal dogfighting. A combination of their size, stature, and deep loyalty to their caretakers makes Pit Bulls prime dogs for this cruel industry. But what many people miss is the fact that this has nothing to do with the nature of these dogs. In order to make them be vicious and fight, sometimes to the death, dogfighters starve, abuse, and condition their dogs to fight. The only time these dogs are given any sort of love or praise is when they successfully win a fight, and just like any other dog, they crave this sort of attention and approval from their caretakers.

NANNY DOGS -
"just a reminder that for over a hundred years, pit bulls used to be referred to as “the nanny dog” and their main job was as babysitters.
  • in temperance tests (the equivalent of how many times your kid can poke your dog in the eye before it bites him) of all breeds the most tolerant was the golden retriever. the second most tolerant was the pit bull. temperament evaluations by the american temperament test society give american pit bull terriers a very high passing rate of 82.6%, while the average passing rate for the other 121 dog breeds tested was only 77%.
  • pit bulls are not naturally human aggressive. in fact pit bull puppies prefer human company to their mother’s two weeks before all other dogs.
  • no spayed/neutered, indoor pit bull has ever killed a person.
  • contrary to the popular myth, pit bulls DO NOT have locking jaws.
  • approximately 6000 pit bulls are put to death every day, by far the highest number of any breed euthanized. For no reason!
  • BLAME THE OWNER, NOT THE BREED.
This from the lucky mom of two pit bulls, Tuscan and Dakota Storm, who have enhanced my life in every way. And to think that Dakota was bred for dog fighting. What is the matter with this world."

There's mountains of evidence indicating pit bull owners have referred to their pet as a "nanny dog" giving creed to the story.

I really can't understand why the pro breed specific legislation people get so riled up about it surely they can't think people mean it or take it literally.

Back in the frontier days it probably had more meaning in the days when the family pets accompanied the kids to the stream for a swim and were literally a deterrent to wild animals.

If they argue that it puts the public at risk honestly it present far less of a risk to public safety then the disinformation and propaganda being promoted as fact by the breed specific legislation people.

They promote legislation which ignores the 128 victims of non banned breeds in the last decade in America legislation which if enacted does nothing to prevent another 128 victims in the next ten years too and they attack anyone promoting "The Calgary model" which is supported by all the legitimate animal organizations as it's proven to have decreased dog bite instances and lowered fatalities wherever it's been enacted.

more to come.....
