Some gems from "My dog doesn't bite; The Parents Guide to Dangerous Dogs"
written by veterinarian Jack Tillerson. The Ted Bundy analogy and product analogy portions are a MUST READ.
"The politically correct approach to canine attacks and maiming is to examine these cases on an individual basis and not "condemn the whole breed." One could make the argument that these dog breeds condemn themselves. This is a select group of animals which has shown a vastly greater tendency to attack, maim, and kill humans. This is a fact and there is no disputing it.
"Advocates will blame the behavior of aggressive dog breeds on bad owners. Irresponsible ownership is not breed specific and the argument is merely a smoke screen. There are plenty of Retrievers with irresponsible owners, and these dogs cause nowhere near the level of damage that is seen with aggressive breeds."
"Years ago, there were frequent headlines of child shootings in Florida. Almost all of these cases involved an irresponsible adult who left a handgun unsecured. When outcries reached the needed threshold, the Florida Legislature passed a law holding gun owners responsible (meaning jail time) should a child have access to a firearm. The law was a good one as the right to own a firearm was not infringed, and the responsible gun owners were not affected. When the law took effect, the number of these incidents dropped precipitously. With the freedom to own a firearm, there was responsibility. Laws that hold owners of dangerous dogs personally responsible for the actions of their pet are needed.
"There is a fundamental difference between dangerous dogs and guns. A firearm will not run down the street and attack the neighbor's child. Dangerous dogs have that capability."
***THIS PORTION IS A MUST READ***
"When assessing canine behavior, keep this in mind. Many dogs that attack behave well at times; or even most of the time. These animals do not (usually) terrorize neighborhood kids on a daily basis. The dogs that killed Lillian Stiles were compliant when taken in by authorities. This behavior can lead to a false sense of security. Many dogs that carry out canine attacks on humans are, in their owners' eyes, well-mannered. Years may pass before a dangerous dog snaps and carries out a vicious attack. People and parents need be aware that when these incidents occur, the culprits are usually from a select group of animals. In addition, there are always always flags when a particular dog is prone to aggressive behavior.
"In the clinic, I will use the Ted Bundy analogy. Ted Bundy was a law student and serial killer in the 1970's. When not practicing his hobby, the man was quite charming. I tell owners of aggressive dogs that Bundy did not kill people every day. Dangerous dogs do not carry out attacks on a daily basis. In a legal sense, pets are considered personal property (in an emotional sense, they are far more). When acquiring any piece of personal property, it pays to do some research. One can examine performance, reliability, or in the case of certain items, the resale value. Safety of a given product is also an important factor when making an acquisition. If the product brings about the greater risk of a lawsuit, injury, or even death when compared to others in its category, it would be wise to avoid that item. This logic would apply when choosing electrical panels for the home or car seats for your kids. You can add one more category. The breed of dog you bring home to your family.
"Statistics concerning canine attack are skewed toward a handful of notorious breeds. This being said, the majority of Rottweilers, Akitas, and the like do not attack humans. Statistics merely conclude the possibility of canine attack is significantly higher with this group of animals is significantly higher when compared with other breeds of dogs. In addition, these attacks will result in a greater probability of severe injury and death. A similar analogy can be made with ill-designed baby cribs or smoke alarms. Most will fulfill their intended use with no one being injured. Knowing this, would you purchase one of these suspect products? When a product is associated with injury and death, even in relatively small numbers, it is usually removed from the marketplace.
"With dangerous breeds of dogs, injuries occur in the tends of thousands annually. If the sale of any consumer product led to this level of morbidity, the company producing it would be sued out of existence. Consumers rarely tempt fate with a faulty electrical panel or an ill-designed child seat. Using similar logic, why obtain a dangerous breed of dog? Move on to the next breed to get a more family friendly pet."

There are a number of patterns associated with canine attack. These observations, along with a veterinarian's unique perspective, are used to educate readers on how to avoid becoming a canine attack victim. Read accounts from persons who were mauled by vicious dogs.Witness the frustrations of canine attack victims, or their survivors, as lives are are shattered in a matter of minutes.
Almost everyone has a story about dangerous dogs. Most of these events occur for a reason, making knowledge the best defense against canine attack. My Dog Doesn't Bite is like no other book currently in print. Dr. Tillerson assembles the bare facts on vicious dogs along with testimony from experts, victims, and a cynical veterinarian. Jon Felosi good read. What I find funniest about these people is they post all these pics of their pits with kids. Like they are so proud and we should be amazed that they could take a pic of their pit while it was not actively attacking someone. They think pictures like this proves something but the mere fact someone has to take a pic of an animal NOT attacking and act like it is some feat shows there is something wrong with the breed and people that own them.

Also any pit could crush the childs head,, break its neck or mortally wound them before the parent could even drop the camera. This day in age militant liberalism and political correctness are making people stupid.
